Collections / Audio
For the past 40 years, Anthology Film Archives has been recording interviews, lectures, Q&As and round table discussions with leading figures in the avant-garde film community. These audio recordings, in combination with elements donated to AFA over the years, consist of about 2,000 analog tapes and hundreds of digitally born recordings. These recordings provide an important insight into the history of AFA as well as the artistic practices of such film luminaries as Stan Brakhage, Harry Smith, Len Lye, Jonas Mekas, and Robert Breer, among many others.
In 2009, Anthology Film Archives began actively digitizing its collection of audio recordings and making them available on the web. Some of this material can currently be found on Ubuweb: http://www.ubu.com/sound/afa.html.
As the cataloging and transfer efforts for our audio collections continue, we hope to make more of this important content available on-line; please continue to check the Collections section of this website for more information.
