INGRID CAVEN

September 13 – September 15

September 13-15, 2024

From Ingrid Caven’s start in cinema alongside Rainer Werner Fassbinder and the myriad extraordinary roles that followed, to her theater performances and legendary concerts, the German actress and singer has been a force of inspiration and a vital collaborator for artists across five decades, including Werner Schroeter, Yves Saint Laurent, Jean-Jacques Schuhl, Daniel Schmid, Bertrand Bonello, Albert Serra, Claire Denis, Jean Eustache, Rita Azevedo Gomes, Raúl Ruiz, and André Téchiné.

To celebrate both Caven’s peerless career and the publication of the new book, “Ingrid Caven: I Am a Fiction” – the result of a collaboration between Fireflies Press and the film festival FIDMarseille – Anthology presents screenings of three of the actress’s most memorable films, representing three of the legendary filmmakers she has worked with: Fassbinder’s MOTHER KÜSTERS GOES TO HEAVEN, Eustache’s MY LITTLE LOVES, and Schmid’s LA PALOMA (the latter screening from a brand-new digital restoration).

Fireflies Press’s co-founder Annabel Brady-Brown will be here in person to present “Ingrid Caven: I Am a Fiction” on Saturday, September 14, with books available for purchase.

Part of Fireflies Press and FIDMarseille’s joint monograph series “One Two Many”, “Ingrid Caven: I Am a Fiction” features a new in-depth interview with Caven by Cyril Neyrat and Tsveta Dobreva, a dossier of photographs and other material from her personal archive, a career-spanning essay by Erika Balsom, a conversation between Jean-Jacques Schuhl and Albert Serra, and creative texts on individual films by Philippe Azoury, Renato Berta, Bertrand Bonello, Luc Chessel, Bruce Hainley, Rachel Kushner, Nathalie Léger, and Audrey Wollen.

Special thanks to FIDMarseille; Cinémathèque Suisse; and Brian Belovarac (Janus Films).
