GENERATION WEALTH

November 17 – November 30

Continuing our ongoing collaboration with the International Center of Photography, Anthology hosts a film series in conjunction with the ICP’s latest exhibition, “GENERATION WEALTH by Lauren Greenfield.” Using photography, oral history, and film to examine the pervasive influence of money, status, and celebrity in America and abroad, Lauren Greenfield explores the ways in which the pursuit of wealth, and its material trappings and elusive promises of happiness, has evolved since the late 1990s. Weaving together stories about affluence, beauty, body image, competition, corruption, fantasy, and excess, Greenfield’s sweeping project questions the distance between value and commodity in a globalized consumerist culture.

On the occasion of the ICP’s exhibition, Anthology presents theatrical screenings of Greenfield’s own moving-image work – including her acclaimed feature film, THE QUEEN OF VERSAILLES, and a selection of her short films – alongside a film series focusing on the themes of conspicuous consumption, body image, and the consequences of money-madness. Anchored by films rooted in contemporary life and society (such as THE WOLF OF WALL STREET and SPRING BREAKERS), the series also ranges through different eras and cultures (via Robert Bresson’s L’ARGENT and Catherine Breillat’s FAT GIRL), and includes a special sneak preview of Robinson Devor’s upcoming POW WOW (which will enjoy a theatrical run at Anthology in early 2018).

The ICP exhibition “GENERATION WEALTH by Lauren Greenfield” will be on view until January 7, 2018. For more info, visit: www.icp.org/exhibitions/generation-wealth-by-lauren-greenfield, or www.icp.org.
