VALENTINE’S DAY MASSACRE 2014

February 14 – February 17

ALL ON 35MM!

Last year Anthology marked Valentine’s Day by presenting a toxic yet sublime pairing of two radically anti-romantic films: Maurice Pialat’s grueling, autobiographical study of a dysfunctional off-and-on relationship, WE WON’T GROW OLD TOGETHER, and Albert Brooks’s hilarious yet no less painful MODERN ROMANCE. Our war on Hallmark-Card-sentimentality was compromised only by the fact that we weren’t able to include the third film in our dreamed-of anti-Valentine’s trilogy, Andrzej Zulawski’s batshit crazy depiction of an imploding marriage, POSSESSION. This year, however, the stars have finally aligned, and we’ll be presenting all three films over the Valentine’s weekend.

For all the bitter, resentful cynics out there, what better way to spend Valentine’s than with the strong medicine of a Maurice Pialat/Albert Brooks/Andrzej Zulawski triple-feature? And for those couples who want to put their relationship to the ultimate test, we dare you to undergo this trial – if you see all three films in a row and your relationship survives, you’ve truly found your life partner.

Thanks to Brian Block (Bleeding Light Film Group), Michael Horne & Christopher Lane (Sony), and Jacob Perlin (The Film Desk).
