VISIBLE EVIDENCE

August 11 – August 14

Every year since 1993, the peripatetic Visible Evidence conference has brought together an international range of documentary scholars, practitioners, curators, and enthusiasts to explore the historical significance of documentary film, television, photography, and new media, and to advance contemporary debates about the social, political, and cultural roles of film, video, and other media as witnesses and voices of reality.
From August 11-14, Visible Evidence 18 will be held at NYU and other sites around Manhattan, drawing themes and inspiration from the unique resources of NYC, including the radical and experimental legacies of New York documentary; the decade of documentary production during and related to the events and aftermath of September 11th; symphonies and other urban sounds; and the archiving and preservation of documentary film, video, and audio at several local institutions of film and media history.
In collaboration with Visible Evidence, Anthology will be presenting a program of short documentaries from its collection as well as a very special presentation and talk by filmmaker Leandro Katz, and will also be supplementing Katz’s Visible Evidence appearance with two additional programs of his film and video work.
The Visible Evidence programs will be free for conference registrants, with tickets available to the general public at our regular prices; for the two additional Leandro Katz programs, Visible Evidence registrants will receive $6 AFA member tickets.
Special thanks to Jonathan Kahana (NYU/Visible Evidence 18), Leandro Katz, and Jesse Lerner.

Anthology gratefully acknowledges support for this program from the Experimental Television Center’s Presentation Funds Program, which is supported by public funds from the Electronic Media and Film Program of the New York State Council on the Arts.
