CINEMA FOR LIBERATION

May 2 – May 31

May 2-31, 2025

CINEMA FOR LIBERATION pursues threads of connection between struggles in Palestine and the United States – struggles for home, livelihood, and liberation, against exile, accumulation, and imprisonment. Rather than collapsing these struggles – which are sometimes alike, sometimes altogether different – this documentary series explores forces of subjugation and displacement and the movements that rise to face them. In one film, Palestinian workers sabotage an oil rig they themselves built under British colonial rule. In another, NYC workers organize over wages and working conditions at Amazon – that global behemoth whose cloud computing services help modernize the Zionist project. The final program in the series interrogates the prison as the apogee of exile and extraction in the U.S. and Palestine alike.

Each film takes a different approach to examining these threads of connection. Stray data, original footage, participant interviews, direct documentation, and dramatic reenactment push the documentary form to its limits. They center one urgent question: how do we strike fatal blows against the forces of colonialism and capitalism that endanger our shared world?

Presented by the Writers Against the War on Gaza.
